A broad idea with different meanings
Wellbeing programmes may include rest, movement, mindfulness or other activities. Their content, evidence and suitability differ. A pleasant experience is not proof that an activity prevents illness, extends life or replaces medical care.
Ask what each activity involves, who leads it, the full cost and whether you can decline it. Discuss activities with your clinical team if you are recovering from a procedure or have health concerns.
Mindfulness and essential oils
Some people use mindfulness or essential oils as complementary approaches. Evidence differs by use, and not every claimed benefit is established. Discuss them with a clinician, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, sensitive to fragrances or caring for a child.
Do not substitute these activities for prescribed treatment or use them to delay medical attention. If an activity causes discomfort, stop and ask a qualified professional for guidance.
Questions about stem cells and exosomes
Some regenerative products are marketed with claims that go beyond the available evidence. In its US consumer guidance, the FDA states that there are no FDA-approved exosome products; rules and approvals in other countries must be checked separately.
Ask what exact product is proposed, for what purpose, which regulator authorises it, what evidence supports it, what the risks are and whether it is part of a properly overseen study. Registration in a trial database alone does not establish approval.
Before deciding
- Is this a wellbeing activity, an authorised medical intervention or an experimental treatment?
- Who is responsible for safety, and what evidence supports the specific claim?
- Could it affect my current care or recovery?
- What alternatives exist, including not participating?
