From the US to Türkiye: planning care and the return home

Review travel information

Check the U.S. Department of State's current Türkiye advisory, destination information and international travel checklist before making a booking. Entry rules depend on nationality, documents and purpose; confirm current requirements with the appropriate authorities.

Check the address, qualifications and authorisation of the actual facility and clinician, and ask how you will communicate throughout your care.

Talk to your care team at home

Before committing, discuss your health and proposed procedure with your usual healthcare professional. The CDC suggests a pre-travel consultation with a healthcare provider or travel medicine clinician, ideally at least 4–6 weeks before travel.

Identify who could review you after your return. Ask your insurer what is and is not covered if follow-up or emergency care is needed in the United States.

Ask for a complete written plan

Obtain a detailed quotation, treatment and recovery plan, possible extra costs, arrangements for a companion, and instructions for a complication. Ask about travel timing; your treating clinician should assess your individual readiness.

Before leaving, request copies of records and discharge instructions in a language your healthcare team can understand, including details of the procedure and medicines.

The U.S. travel advisory says to call 112 in Türkiye for immediate emergency assistance. When seeking care after returning home, tell the healthcare team where and when the procedure took place and provide the records you received.
