Check current entry and travel advice
Start with the UK government's Türkiye travel advice and entry requirements. Rules depend on passport type and nationality and can change; consult the official pages and the Turkish authorities for your individual circumstances.
Read the regional safety advice as well as health guidance, and check that any policy is valid for the complete itinerary.
Understand insurance before paying
The UK government says EHIC and GHIC cards are not valid in Türkiye. An ordinary travel policy may exclude planned treatment and related complications. Ask an insurer for written confirmation of what is covered, including follow-up, return travel, a longer stay and medical evacuation, as relevant to your plan.
Plan your return to the UK
Speak to your GP or another appropriate clinician in advance about your proposed care and the transfer of records. Ask the treating team for a written discharge summary, the procedure details, medicines, follow-up plan and a contact for problems.
Do not assume that a provider has a UK-based clinician or that a particular follow-up service is included: obtain written confirmation and understand any costs.
If you need urgent help
In Türkiye, call 112 for an ambulance in an emergency. After returning to the UK, use the local emergency services when appropriate. Tell the treating clinician about your recent travel and procedure.
