Before deciding

Discuss my health, goals and alternatives with a qualified clinician.
Check the treating clinician's qualifications and the facility's current authorisation.
Speak with the clinician who would perform the procedure.
Ask about risks, limits, alternatives and the option of not proceeding.
Take time to consider the decision without pressure.

Before booking

Get a written, itemised quote and cancellation terms.
Ask about complication treatment and additional charges.
Check planned-treatment and complication cover with my insurer in writing.
Read the current travel and entry guidance for my passport and destination.
Agree on a flexible stay, accessible transport and companion arrangements.

During the stay

Keep the facility address and emergency and insurance assistance numbers accessible.
Confirm appointments, interpretation and follow-up contacts.
Ask which symptoms require urgent care and where to go.
Discuss activity, rest and travel timing with the treating team.

Before returning home

Request a discharge summary and procedure and medication details.
Know who to contact for follow-up and what is included.
Discuss follow-up with an appropriate clinician at home.
Keep travel plans flexible if the treating team recommends further care.
